Anton Tagliaferro, a Maltese-born Australian equities fund manager based in Sydney, has been listed in a book entitled The World’s 99 Greatest Investors – The Secret of Success, which includes business magnates such as George Soros and Warren Buffet.

Mr Tagliaferro is the investment director at Investors Mutual Ltd, which manages Australian equity portfolios of over $4 billion.

The book, published in Sweden, is authored by Magnus Angenfelt, a hedge fund manager.

Mr Tagliaferro told Times of Malta Business: “To be honest, when the author of the book, Magnus Angenfelt, got in touch with me over 18 months ago asking me for specific details to be featured in his book alongside the likes of Warren Buffet and George Soros, I thought it may have been some sort of joke or hoax.”

“The book is now published and is selling in several countries around the world and, of course, it’s a great compliment and very satisfying for me to be listed in a book such as this, which will be marketed and sold internationally. As it happens, Investors Mutual (IML) is also celebrating its15th anniversary this year and the launch of the book in Australia dovetails well with this.”

Mr Tagliaferro said he had built a “great” team of capable investment people at IML who have worked alongside him for many years and who he believes are ready to start taking over the day-to-day running of the portfolios “while I take a step back and assume more of a mentoring role going forward”.

Mr Tagliaferro is a chartered accountant by profession and spent five years working with Deloitte in London from 1981 to 1986. He then moved to Australia where he worked in the financial services industry. He established Investors Mutual Ltd in 1998, as a specialist Australian equities fund manager.

IML was awarded Fund Manager of the Year – Australian Equities, at the 2003 Money Management-ASSIRT Fund Manager of the Year awards, in May 2003. IML also won the Money Management-ASSIRT Rising Star Award for 2003. In 2002, IML was also awarded the Fund Manager of the Year – Australian Equities, by Money Management-ASSIRT.
