Alfie Manduca`s Maltese Falcon last night rounded the island of Lipari in fifth position in the Roma per Tutti race which sailed off on Sunday afternoon from Riva di Traiano, in the Italian capital, to Capri, Lipari and back.

The Maltese Falcon is one of the 113 boats in the offshore race which includes two classes, one fully crewed and the other designed as a double-handed.

At present, the fleet is headed by 1998 Middle Sea Race winner Riviera di Rimini with popular Italian politician Massimo D`Alema on board. Wiva, Lady Blues and Grampus, all Middle Sea Race boats, were also in the race.

Riviera di Rimini, which won the MSR four years ago in record time, is leading ahead of Grampus, Chiva and Silk. The Maltese Falcon is fifth and the next boat was at least three hours slower, some 12 miles adrift.

Organisers are expecting that the first boats will arrive at Riva di Traiano tomorrow afternoon.
