Maltese football to get a new stadium in Marsa
Project to also include new facilities for local rugby and baseball
Maltese football is to get a new stadium in Marsa.
The UEFA Level 3 stadium will have a 5,000-person capacity and be eligible to host matches up to the league phase of UEFA competitions.
The project, announced on Monday, will also include a training pitch, rugby pitch and baseball facilities.
Works on the stadium are expected to begin in 2027, with a target date for completion set for 2030. A planning application for the project will be submitted "in the coming hours," Malta Premier League chairman Joseph Muscat said.

The decision to use artificial turf was taken due to Maltese weather restrictions and means the stadium can be used to host concerts and other large-scale events just 48 hours before matches, journalists were told at the announcement on Monday morning.
It will feature two opposing stands – one for home fans and an opposing one for away supporters – and have hospitality suites for VIP attendees.
The land where the stadium will be built is owned by the local rugby federation, which will also be getting a new clubhouse as part of the deal.
Malta Premier League CEO Alan Abela described the project as "a new home for Maltese football".
"Designed to elevate every matchday, this project will bring fans closer to the action, introduce modern facilities, and set new standards for football in Malta," he said.
