The Cabinet has approved a bill on the Maltese language which would give the necessary tools and structure to continue safeguarding and expanding the language, Education Minister Louis Galea said.

He said the government wanted to safeguard the identity of Maltese in every way. Speaking at a ceremony at the Dun Karm Psaila secondary school, in Zebbug on the occasion of the 132nd anniversary of the birth of the national poet, Dr Galea said Dun Karm had worked hard to ensure Malta retained the Maltese language, one of the most important elements of the people's identity.

During the activity, students read a short biography of the poet and several of his poems.
