Porn The Musical, penned by Malcolm Galea, Kris Spiteri and Boris Cezek, will feature at this year's Fringe Festival in Edinburgh.

This will be the first time a Maltese musical would be participating in the world's largest theatre festival, a spokesman for the promoters said. A total of 1.5 million tickets were bought by patrons last year to watch shows that vary from comedy to physical theatre.

Twenty-two shows of Porn The Musical, which has a cast of seven, a live band and a crew of five, will be performed. "The musical took Malta by storm in March, so much so that another seven shows have been scheduled at Argotti Gardens, in Floriana, starting on July 27," the spokesman said.

The musical recounts the story of young Stefan Bugeja whose happy existence in Malta is shattered when he finds out that his fiancé Jade is not as angelic and pure as he thought. Stefan goes off to America in search of a new life. What he finds is an exciting group of friends in an industry that takes some getting used to. He also meets Sanddy (with a double d) and they embark on a desperate musical adventure.

The cast remains the same as in the March shows: Max Dingli as Stefan, Louis Cassar as Martin Scoresleazy, David Ellul as Dr Johnny Long, Toni Attard as the Miscellaneous Man and Malcolm Galea as the Narrator. The only changes are in the female roles who now include Sarah Naudi and Eliza Borg. The choreography is by Emma Loftus.

The show in Edinburgh and Malta are being produced by Winston Azzopardi. Tickets are available from www.maltaticket.com and from all Exotique, Agenda Bookshop, Bookends, Newskiosk and Vodafone outlets.
