Five Maltese players are engaged by different teams in top Italian competitions. Massimo Cremona, Mark Gauci and Joe Mifsud figure in the Serie A and Samuel Bartolo and Derek Conti in Serie B.

Cremona is again on the books of AS Perugia. They are currently second in the standings, just one point behind leaders Pisa. Cremona played four matches of the nine scheduled. Perugia have 20 points.

Gauci plays for Reggio Emilia and made his first appearance of the season for the Italians earlier this month. They are third in the standings with 19 points.

This is also Mifsud's first time in the Serie A following his move to AS Palermo. He played all his matches but the Sicilians just managed one win, vs Bologna, to slide to the bottom end of the standings with just three points.

In Serie B, Bartolo and Conti play for CCT Roma who have a total of 25 points out of the possible 27.

CCT Roma are favourites for promotion to the Serie A. They are currently seven points ahead of their nearest rivals.
