Malta took part for the first time in Eurofest 2003, an international festival of puppet theatres, held in Poland.

The puppet show, entitled, Wild is-Sigra ta' l-Gharghar, was performed by The Drama Centre - Mikelang Borg Theatre Group. It was based on an original script in Maltese with originally designed puppets, set and music.

Other countries, which also performed in their native language, included Latvia, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovenia, Estonia, Lithuania, Poland and Cyprus.

The festival was spread over a week.

The Drama Centre has been invited to take part in the next festival in 2005, which will include participants from all EU countries. The Maltese troupe consisted of Manuel Cauchi, Michael Tabone, Bernardo Riolo, Joseph Callus, Edward Cachia and Josette Ciappara.

The script was written by Mr Cauchi and John Attard, who also made the puppets.
