Malta's rich cultural diversity and varied musical elements will be represented by cultural group Etnika and singer Miriam Christine Borg at a special event in Luxembourg tomorrow marking the first anniversary of the accession of 10 new member states into the EU.

The celebration, called Magie D'Un Soir (Magic Of A Night), will be organised at the Neumunster Abbey in Luxembourg city, a renowned cultural centre where the signing of Bulgaria's and Romania's accession treaty took place earlier this week. The event, organised by the Luxembourg EU presidency and the European Commission, will also serve to welcome the two new accession states due to join the EU in 2007.

Altogether, 170 artistes from all over Europe will be meeting in the abbey and presenting their best numbers in front of many distinguished guests and other visitors from all over the EU.

Many Maltese, particularly those working in the EU institutions, both in Belgium and in Luxembourg, are expected to be present for the event. The Maltese community in the two countries increased by over 150 during the last year, largely due to new working opportunities and appointments within the EU administration.

The programme will include music, dance, prose and exhibitions.
