The General Principles of the European Union encompass equality between men and women. Certain rights for women at work in Malta, such as longer maternity leave and protection against sexual harassment, have been introduced in Malta only as part of Malta's EU accession process.

NCW has been working closely with women's rights lobby groups within the European Economic and Social Committee, that are consulted by the Commission on certain matters upon legislative initiation.

We believe that the NCW has a very vital role in exposing women's conditions in Malta even at a European level. We will work to give this voice to Maltese women.
