Man, 71, accused of threatening to kill his wife with a pair of scissors
The woman scored 15 on the risk assessment, which means she was deemed to be in severe danger
A 71-year-old man has been accused of threatening to kill his wife with a pair of scissors.
The man, who is not being named to protect his wife, was remanded in custody after pleading not guilty to causing his wife to fear violence, threatening and insulting her.
It is understood that the pensioner went to see his son in hospital after his grandchild was born, and his son did not speak to him.
The man returned home and told his wife that their son was no longer welcome in the house, grabbed a pair of scissors and told her “I would kill you with this”.
The woman scored 15 on the risk assessment, which means she was deemed to be in severe danger.
In court, the man denied the charges. Bail was requested to which the prosecution objected, insisting that the woman left the matrimonial home for her safety and is currently at an alternative place but that did not mean she would not return to her house.
The request was denied and the man was remanded in custody.
Magistrate Nadine Sant Lia presided. Police inspector Christian Cauchi prosecuted. Lawyer Victor Bugeja appeared for the accused.
