Man accused of 2013 murder granted bail over cocaine possession

George Galea,53, was back in court after being accused of having cocaine in his possession

A man, who is accused of the 2013 double murder, has been granted bail after he was arraigned in May over aggravated possession of cocaine.

George Galea, 53, from Luqa, was back in court earlier this year, where he was accused of having cocaine in his possession in circumstances that denoted it was not for personal use. He was further charged with being in possession of a stun gun and breaching his bail conditions and recidivism.

He denies the charges.

On August 11, Galea was released on bail against a €5,000 deposit and a €40,000 personal guarantee.

In 2014, Jason Galea and George Galea, who are charged with the murder of a convicted drug dealer, Mario Camilleri (l-Imnieħru) and his son, Mario Jr., were granted bail against a deposit of €30,000 and a personal guarantee of €30,000.

Both are still awaiting trial in connection with the double murder.

In February 2023, Galea was jailed for a year after he was found to have breached his curfew, which had been imposed as part of bail conditions handed to him by the Criminal Court, just a month earlier.

Magistrate Caroline Farrugia Frendo presided. AG lawyer Daniel Tabone prosecuted, assisted by police inspector Alfredo Mangion. Lawyers Franco Debono, Yanica Barbara Sant and Adreana Zammit appeared for the accused.
