He was also disqualified from holding a driving licence for 12 months
A 36-year-old man pleaded guilty to negligent driving without a licence and insurance cover and was handed a suspended sentence.
Yusef Alualo Huseyn appeared in court on Wednesday afternoon.
Police Inspector Sarah Kathleen Zerafa explained that on November 18, police officers were conducting roadside inspections on December 13 Road in Marsa when the accused was stopped for negligent driving.
When asked for his driving licence, the man said he did not have one and showed the police some documents issued by the Bulgarian authorities.
The man was arrested when the officers realised that he had been residing in Malta without the necessary documents.
The court warned the accused that he may face a prison term if found guilty.
He confirmed his admission, and the court handed him a six-month prison term suspended for two years.
He was also disqualified from holding a driving licence for 12 months.
Magistrate Jean Paul Grech presided.
