A man was accused of drug trafficking after he was arrested for carrying 10 kilos of a substance suspected to be cannabis, with a street value of around €100,000.
Gambian national Sedia Jallow, 44, was charged with drug trafficking and money laundering in court on Saturday. He pleaded not guilty.
A court heard how on August 30, the police were notified of the accused arriving in Malta from Lisbon.
When Jallow's plane landed, the police and customs were unable to find a person who matched his name. But the police spotted an unattended luggage going around the conveyor belt, which had the name ‘Sedia Jallow’ attached to it.
The police found 40 packages of cannabis in the luggage, which amounted to a total of 10 kilos.
Following further investigations, police were able to trace Jallow to a residence in Żabbar through CCTV footage and arrested him on Thursday.
Magistrate Yana Micallef Stafrace presided over the case. Attorney General lawyer Godwin Cini, alongside Inspector Jonathan Pace, prosecuted.
Defence lawyers Franco Debono and Adreana Zammit represented the accused.
