Man arrested hours after armed robbery
The 31-year-old suspect is due to be arraigned in the coming days
A man was arrested in the early hours of Thursday morning, just hours after allegedly carrying out an armed robbery at an Msida shop.
The robbery took place last night in Msida at around 11pm, when a man carrying a sharp weapon entered a shop on Triq l-Irmiġġ and demanded money from the cashier.
The suspect is a 31-year-old Marsa resident.
The employee, a 36-year-old Marsa man, tried to push the aggressor out of the shop and was struck by the weapon during the commotion, police said.
The thief stole cash and fled the scene.
Police officers immediately began searches after being provided with a description of the alleged thief, and arrested the accused after spotting him on Triq it-Tiġrija in Marsa.
He is being held in custody and will be arraigned in the coming days.
Magistrate Philip Galea Farrugia was informed of the case and has appointed an inquiry while police investigations are ongoing.
