Man arrested over spate of vandalised cars in Bormla
Resident says more than 15 vehicles may have been targeted in recent days
A 41-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a series of vandalism incidents involving vehicles in Bormla, the police said.
The man, who lives in Bormla, was identified following days of investigation and surveillance after police received several reports from people who found their car windows smashed in recent weeks.
Police said the suspect was believed to be behind all the cases under investigation.
He is expected to be charged in court in the coming days, while police investigations remain ongoing.
One resident told Times of Malta that both their car and their father’s vehicle had been targeted within days of each other in the area of Triq Alessandra.
In both cases, a window was smashed, apparently in an attempt to steal items from inside the vehicles, though the resident said there had been nothing of value in their car.
The resident said neighbours were aware of more than 15 similar incidents in the area over recent days, with vehicles allegedly being targeted almost every night.
They said the incidents had caused fear and frustration among residents, who were concerned that the lack of CCTV cameras in the affected streets made it more difficult to identify offenders and deter further attacks.
Residents were calling for increased police patrols, a wider investigation into the pattern of incidents and the possible installation of CCTV cameras in the area.
