Man broke down his neighbour's door, court told

The accused was remanded in custody

A 45-year-old man who allegedly broke down his neighbour’s door was denied bail on arraignment on Tuesday.

Sunday Johnson was accused of insulting and threatening his neighbour and causing him fear of violence. He was also accused of damaging the door to his neighbour’s apartment, and causing €600 in damages.

He denied the charges.

Johnson and the alleged victim live in a block of two apartments in St Paul’s Bay.

Police inspector Italo Mizzi explained that on November 5 Johnson threatened his neighbour that he would chop his head off. After that, there were a series of incidents culminating on December 14, when Johnson went to his neighbour’s apartment upstairs and broke the door down.

The alleged victim told the police that he did not know why Johnson was behaving this way.

Mizzi explained that Johnson would knock on the alleged victim’s door at 1am.

“We tried to understand Johnson’s behaviour and all he told us that his upstairs neighbour has a device emitting radio waves on his [Johnson’s] family causing bowel movements,” Mizzi said.

The police inspector explained that after obtaining an arrest warrant, officers went to Johnson’s house and found his family living in poor sanitary conditions. He was arrested and the Child Protection Services were called in to assist the children.

A request for bail was made. The prosecution objected, saying the alleged victim was fearing for his safety.

Legal aid lawyer Ingrid Zammit Young countered that the man was the only one sustaining his family.

The court denied bail.

Magistrate Victor Axiak presided.

Police inspectors Italo Mizzi and Bradley Grima prosecuted. Legal aid lawyer Ingrid Zammit Young appeared for the accused.
