Man charged after police find drugs on him during road stop

A man has been charged with drug trafficking after police found sachets of drugs on his person during a road stop in Birżebbuġa.

Owen Mizzi was driving near Għar Dalam on May 16th when police stopped his car to carry out a road stop.

While checking his driving documents, Mizzi appeared agitated and anxious, prompting police to carry out a search on him and his car.

Mizzi immediately admitted to police that he had drugs in his possession.

Police officers found 29 pills, eight sachets of a pink substance and 15 sachets of a white substance suspected to be cocaine.

Police also found €140 in cash and a substance suspected to be cannabis. Mizzi was then taken to the police depot at around midnight, where he gave a statement to the police.

He was granted bail subject to a €10,000 deposit and a €30,000 guarantee. He must sign a bail book twice a day in Ħamrun and obey a curfew.

The court also imposed a freezing order on his assets.
