Man charged with sexual offences against minor granted bail

The 37-year old denies defiling girl and taking illicit photos

A 37-year-old man was granted bail after pleading not guilty to participating in sexual activities with a girl, who at the time of the case was under the age of 16.

The Gozitan man appeared before magistrate Brigitte Sultana on Thursday, where he was accused of participating in sexual activities with a minor between January 2022 and December 2024.

He was further accused of committing non-consensual sexual acts on the minor, defiling her, holding her against her will, and subjecting her to physical intimacy.

The man was also charged with taking non-consensual private sexual photographs and film of a woman.

He denied the charges.

The police started investigating the case after the girl was taken to file a police report accompanied by her father. The father had found out about the allegations after receiving messages from someone else.

The man was granted bail against a €1,000 deposit and €10,000 personal guarantee.

AG lawyer Tilden Tabone prosecuted assisted by police inspector Mario Xiberras.

Lawyers Alex Scerri Herrera and Matthew Xuereb appeared for the accused.
