Man charged with stealing €320 from a Puttinu Cares donation box
Joseph Xuereb was also charged with breaching the conditions of two previous bail releases
A man was charged with stealing €320 from a Puttinu Cares donation box located in a Marsa bar earlier this month.
Joseph Xuereb, 63, of Marsa pleaded not guilty to theft and to breaching the conditions of two previous bail releases on March 8.
Magistrate Elaine Rizzo heard how, on March 9, the owner of a Marsa bar went to the Marsa police station and reported that money had been stolen from the Puttinu Cares donation box, which he had at his bar.
The bar owner said he had contacted Xuereb, and they agreed to meet up so that he would return the money.
However, Xuereb only returned €120 out of the €320 in the donation box, according to the bar owner.
Xuereb was granted bail against a €1,000 deposit and a personal guarantee of €2,000.
Attorney General Lawyer Marcea Fenech and Police Inspector Wayne Bonello prosecuted.
Lawyer Arthur Azzopardi appeared for the accused.
