A 23-year-old man of Sliema was arraigned yesterday for allegedly setting several cars on fire and stealing from them.

Anthony Borg was accused that on the night between December 29-30, in Birkirkara he set fire to a Toyota Corolla, an Opel Kadett, a Skoda Favorit, a Fiat 127, a Tata, a Morris Marina and a Fiat Uno.

He was also accused of damaging a shop window and of stealing a cassette player and a CD player from two of the cars.

Mr Borg, who was also charged with relapsing, was remanded in custody.

Lawyer Franco Debono appeared for the accused. The prosecuting officers were inspectors Stephen Mallia and Ramon Mercieca.
