Harasser ends up in court for texting his ex despite court order

A man broke a court order when he messaged his ex-girlfriend, telling her that he still loved her

A man ended up in court, charged with breaching a protection order, after sending his ex-girlfriend a message telling her he still loved her and wanted to work things out.

Magistrate Monica Vella heard the man, 33 from Msida, admit to breaching the protection order.

Police Inspector Omar Zammit explained how, on April 13, the woman filed a report with the police domestic violence unit after her ex-boyfriend – who she recently broke up with after a year-long relationship - sent her a message through Facebook telling her that he wanted to get back with her as he still loved her. She blocked him from all social media, including Facebook.

He had been bound not to approach or contact her by a protection order handed down over a previous case involving alleged domestic violence.

The man was conditionally discharged for a year.

Names are not being published to protect the victim.

Lawyer Arthur Azzopardi represented the accused.
