Frank Cini, 24, of Zebbug, Gozo was in a critical condition suffering from gunshot wounds sustained during a fight in his hometown yesterday morning.
The police said the man, a vegetable hawker, was allegedly involved in a heated argument with a neighbour that turned into a fight.
A scuffle took place in Zaki Street near Mr Cini's truck and the two men fell to the ground. Shots were then heard, the police said.
The men were taken to Gozo General Hospital in an ambulance where Mr Cini was certified to be in danger of dying.
The other man was kept in hospital for medical tests, the police said.
Magistrate Paul Coppini, who is holding an inquiry, appointed a team of court experts to draw up a report on the case.
