A 62-year-old Slovak man died this afternoon after finding himself in difficulty at sea while swimming at Għadira Bay.

Police said they were alerted at around 3.30pm.

The man, who lived in St Paul's Bay, was brought ashore by civilians at the scene. An ambulance rushed him to Mater Dei hospital for treatment, but doctors were unfortunately unable to save his life.
