Malta has recorded 62 new COVID-19 cases and one death, a 72-year-old man who had tested positive for the virus.

The number of patients being treated in hospital remains unchanged at 12, with two in intensive care.

There are now 866 active cases after 42 people recovered.

The number of booster jabs administered so far has increased to 96,507.

Despite an increase in COVID-19 cases, Malta's hospital figures remain steady, which health authorities have put down to the country's high vaccine uptake.

However other parts of Europe are facing a surge in infections, blamed on a sluggish vaccine uptake, the contagious Delta variant and the colder weather.
