Victim's identity remains unknown
A man died in the early hours of Friday after falling four storeys from a building in St Julian's.
Police said the incident occurred at 7.30am in Vjal Portomaso, where the man fell from a height of around four storeys. Sources told Times of Malta that the body was found in the marina area.
The man's identity is still unknown.
A medical team was called to the scene, but the victim was certified dead on site.
Magistrate Philip Galea Farrugia has appointed a magisterial inquiry, while police investigations are ongoing.
Friday’s fatal fall follows a series of similar incidents reported in recent weeks and months, several of which involved falls from balconies, shafts or windows.
Last week, a 72-year-old woman was seriously injured after falling into a shaft at a private residence in Kerċem, while two workers were grievously injured after falling down a shaft while working at an apartment block in Marsascala. Earlier in June, a 53-year-old woman suffered serious injuries after falling two storeys from a window in Birżebbuġa.
Other recent cases included a Scottish tourist who was left in a coma after falling around three storeys while on holiday in Malta, and a man who was hospitalised after falling three floors from a balcony into a yard in Gżira. In January, a 64-year-old man died after falling four storeys down a shaft at a private residence in Mosta, while last November a 41-year-old man died after falling around four storeys into a building shaft in St Paul’s Bay.
