Man, 76, dies in wall collapse in Qormi

BCA, OHSA say works at Ta' Farsina did not have authorities' go-ahead

A man, 76, died when a wall collapsed on him in Ta' Farsina area in Qormi.

Sources told Times of Malta his son, 41, was with him but survived the collapse.

He was rushed to Mater Dei Hospital, where he was found to have suffered grievous injuries.

It is believed they were carrying out construction work in their garage when the wall collapsed on them.

Civil Protection Department, police officers and a medical team rushed to the site to assist.

A police spokesperson said the police received a report about the collapse at around 5.30pm.

The Building and Construction Authority and the Occupational Health and Safety Authority, meanwhile, noted that no works had been approved or given clearance by either authority.

Both authorities will assist the magisterial inquiry.
