A man has been fined €4,000 after ignoring MEPA enforcement notices and continued to carry out construction works on a protected site near Fomm Ir-Rih.

Oreste Galea an enforcement officer with MEPA, told the court that when he arrived on the site at Fomm ir-Rih he personally handed the enforcement notice to Christopher Borg who said that it was his work. Mr Galea added that he found a bulldozer and a rock cutter at the site.

He said the particular site had been scheduled in March 2005 and formed part of the coastal cliffs of Malta.

Rene Attard a scheduling officer with MEPA confirmed this and said that the site had high scenic value and acted as a buffer for surrounding fields.
