Man fined €4k, loses driving licence after driving over motorcyclist
The court ruled that the motorcyclist had the right of way
A man was fined €4,000 and disqualified from driving for one year after being found guilty of seriously injuring a motorcyclist by knocking him off his bike and driving over him.
Magistrate Antoine Agius Bonnici found Kelechi Prince Nadu guilty of reckless driving and injuring a motorcyclist in Tal-Balal Street, Iklin, on April 8, 2025, at around 6.15pm.
The court heard how the motorcyclist was riding from the Naxxar bypass towards Tal-Balal Road, in the direction of San Ġwann. He said that upon exiting onto Tal-Balal Road, he remained in the left-hand lane, and approximately 10 metres before reaching the roundabout, a car struck him from behind.
With the impact, he fell on the ground, and the car drove over him. He recalled that after the collision, Prince Nadu apologised multiple times.
As a result of the incident, the victim was hospitalised for nearly 10 days and had to undergo surgery, as both his arm and leg were injured.
His injuries lasted between three and four months, during which time he required nurses to visit his home twice a week.
He testified that the incident had a psychological impact on him and limited his ability to work, as he can no longer climb the same number of stairs and continues to experience pain in his hand.
The court ruled that the motorcyclist had the right of way and found Prince guilty of the charges.
