A man jailed for six months for misappropriating an air-conditioning unit yesterday obtained a reprieve from jail when an appeal court ruled that a conditional discharge was a more appropriate punishment.

Chief Justice Vincent De Gaetano had ordered a pre-sentencing inquiry report in the case of Joseph Pace, 53, who pleaded guilty to the misappropriation of an air-conditioner worth Lm685 to the detriment of Associated Supplies Limited.

The chief justice ruled that it did not seem that Pace posed any particular threat to society in the context of committing another crime.
