Man gets suspended sentence over possession of child sex abuse material
Kirsten Coleiro's name will be put on the registry of sex offenders
A man was handed a suspended sentence after pleading guilty to being in possession of child sexual abuse material.
Kirsten Coleiro was accused of being in possession of child sexual abuse material and downloading such material.
Police inspector Marcus Cachia presented a CyberTipline report and a National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children report, among other documents.
Psychologist and sexologist Nicholas Briffa testified in the proceedings, telling the court that the accused cooperated while undergoing therapy and shouldered responsibility for his actions.
Coleiro admitted to the charges on November 6, 2025 and confirmed his guilty plea again in February.
The court noted that the photos found in his possession consisted of girls posing naked in a sexual manner and committing sexual acts on themselves and adults. The court took into account the man’s early guilty plea and his remorse for his actions.
The court also considered what Briffa had said: "[Coleiro] has consistently shown remorse, responsibility, and engagement. Continued structured therapy and supervision remain appropriate and beneficial, supporting rehabilitation and long-term stability”.
The court handed Coleiro a two-year prison term suspended for four years.
A five-year treatment order was imposed.
It ordered that the man’s name be put on the registry of sex offenders.
Magistrate Claire Stafrace Zammit presided.
Police inspector Marcus Cachia prosecuted.
Lawyers Amadeus Cachia and Ishmael Psaila appeared for Coleiro.
