Man handed suspended sentence in domestic violence case

He admitted computer misuse and causing his wife to fear violence

A 33-year-old Safi man has been handed a suspended sentence after pleading guilty to computer misuse and causing his wife to fear that violence would be used against her.

The court took into consideration the accused's clean criminal record, his early admission and a risk assessment which classified the case as “not so high”.

The man, who cannot be named by court order, was handed an 18-month prison sentence suspended for 24 months. A restraining order was issued in favour of the woman.

Magistrate Caroline Farrugia Frendo presided. Police inspector Christian Cauchi prosecuted while lawyer Michaela Giglio appeared for the accused.
