Man held in custody after denying breaching protection order, multiple bails
Adulaziz Zamzam is accused of injuring, threatening and insulting his former partner
A 32-year-old man was remanded in custody after pleading not guilty to breaching a protection order and multiple sets of bail conditions.
The former partner of the accused, Adulaziz Zamzam – a Libyan national living in St Julian’s – had filed a report at the Domestic Violence Hub in Mtarfa, police inspector Omar Zammit explained.
The woman alleged Zamzam had breached a protection order issued in her regard on multiple occasions, calling her incessantly from his mobile phone and other mobile numbers, as well as through fake profiles on social media.
The accused was arraigned on February 15, after he insisted on sending the woman a rose and a love letter on Valentine’s Day.
Last month, Zamzam was accused of slightly injuring the woman, threatening and insulting the woman. He denied the charges.
He was eventually granted bail on February 25, when he resumed contacting his former partner despite a protection order being in place.
Zamzam denied the fresh charges in a court appearance Tuesday, when he was accused of breaching the protection order issued in February. He was further accused of breaching four sets of bail conditions.
Lawyer Nicholas Mifsud requested bail.
The prosecution objected. Mifsud insisted that more stringent conditions could be imposed on the accused.
After hearing the submissions, the court denied the man bail, and he was remanded in custody.
Magistrate Nadia Helena Vella presided.
Police inspector Omar Zammit prosecuted.
Lawyer Nicholas Mifsud appeared for the accused.
Lawyer Veronica Ann Spiteri appeared for the alleged victim.
