A woman was rushed to hospital on Wednesday afternoon after a man allegedly threw acid onto her and attacked her with a knife. 

The incident happened on Trejqet Isouard in Marsa, after the two got into an argument that quickly escalated. 

The woman, a 50-year-old living in Swieqi, was taken to Mater Dei Hospital with burns and cuts. 

Police are holding the man involved, a 38-year-old from Santa Venera, for further questioning. 

Magistrate Doreen Clarke is leading an inquiry into the case.
