Man hospitalised after Żabbar roof collapses under him

The incident happened when the man accessed the roof of the adjacent property

A 51-year-old man taken to hospital on Thursday after the roof on which he was standing collapsed under him. 

The incident took place on Sqaq San Vinċenz, when the man accessed the roof of the adjacent building after discovering a water leak in his property, police said, adding the building with the collapsed roof was abandoned. 

The man was taken to Mater Dei Hospital. 

His condition was not known at the time of publication.

In a statement, the Occupational Health and Safety Authority (OHSA) said it had visited the site together with the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) following the incident.

"Preliminary investigations carried out on site showed that there were no construction works in the vicinity and that the work in question was of a domestic nature," the authority said. 

It advised those with concerns about health and safety at workplaces to contact the 138 helpline.
