A man was jailed for three years today after admitting falsification of cheques and fraud.
Timothy Forace admitted falsification of documents and theft but pleaded that he had been threatened by third parties.
Defence counsel also told the court that the accused had drug addiction and gambling problems, and was receiving help for his addictions.
The 32- year-old Pieta resident, who is now unemployed, pleaded guilty to falsifying seven cheques. Four of the cheques were cashed. They were issued by his former employer.
The man was sentenced to three years imprisonment and the court urged the authorities to help him overcome his drug and gambling addictions.
Magistrate Francesco Depasquale also urged the prison authorities to teach the man a trade so that he would be in a position to find employment when he leaves prison.
