Man jailed for grievously injuring another man and carrying a knife

A 32-year-old man was jailed for two years after pleading guilty to grievously injuring another.
Khaled Mahmoud Abdulkasem, a Libyan national, was accused of having caused grievous injuries to another man in an incident on Dragonara Road in Paceville that took place on March 5, 2024.
The man was further charged with carrying a knife without a licence and recidivism.
The Attorney General and the accused filed a joint application on March 3, in which it was recommended that if the latter files a guilty plea, he is sentenced to a two-year prison term and fined €116.47.
The Attorney General requested that a restraining order be issued in favour of the victim for the maximum period allowed by law.
Abdulkasem then pleaded guilty to the charges.
The plea deal was upheld by the court, and the man was jailed for two years from which the months spent under preventive custody shall be deducted.
The court ordered him to pay the €116.47 fine within a month of serving his sentence.
The court also ordered him to pay €951.51 in court expenses that are to be paid in monthly instalments.
The first payment is to be paid in six months, after he has finished serving his sentence.
A three-year restraining order was issued in favour of the victim.
