Man jailed for verbally abusing two police officers and breaching bail
The repeat offender pleaded guilty as court said his bail breach showed he was 'irresponsible and untrustworthy'
A 25-year-old man was jailed for eight months after he pleaded guilty to verbally abusing two police officers and breaching bail.
Kurt Muscat was charged with breaching two sets of bail conditions, one imposed by in February 2023 and another imposed in July 2025, as well as reviling a police sergeant and a constable while on duty.
He admitted the charges.
In its considerations, the court took into account what Muscat was being charged with and his lengthy criminal record. It remarked that he had no qualms to breach a court-imposed order, showing that he was “irresponsible and untrustworthy”.
The court added that the accused needs to understand the consequences of his actions.
It considered that the bail conditions imposed in 2023 were no longer in force and it could not order the forfeiture of any sum.
The court found him guilty by his own admission and jailed him for eight months. He was fined €1,200.
The court ordered that he forfeits €500 from his bail deposit and €1,000 from his personal guarantee in connection to the second set of bail conditions.
The court also ordered his re-arrest in those proceedings.
