Man lands in jail after breaching bail conditions
He was granted bail twice
A 28-year-old man has been jailed for eight months after pleading guilty to breaching bail conditions.
Ramon Attard, from Birżebbuġa, appeared in court on Wednesday afternoon where he was accused of having breached bail conditions imposed on him on December 21, 2023 and July 16, 2025.
Police inspector Omar Zammit explained that one of the court-imposed conditions was for Attard to sign the bail book three times a week. Attard failed to appear for a court sitting on July 28 and from then on failed to sign his bail book.
Attard admitted the charges.
During submissions on punishment, Zammit said the court should consider Attard's early admission and the fact that he had a huge problem with synthetic drugs. He requested Attard's re-arrest and asked the court to seize a minimal amount from his bail deposits.
Attard was jailed for eight months and €500 from his bail deposits were forfeited in favour of the government. A treatment order was also issued.
Magistrate Noel Bartolo presided. Police inspector Omar Zammit prosecuted. Legal aid lawyer Ingrid Zammit Young assisted the accused.
