A 23-year-old man was yesterday charged with conspiring to deal in 1,954 ecstasy pills and trafficking in the drug over the past two years.

The man, whose name cannot be published by court order, was also charged with the possession of the pills in circumstances denoting they were not for his personal use and the simple possession of cannabis resin.

He was further charged with damaging two police cars, assaulting and slightly injuring a police sergeant, disobeying the police, possessing a shotgun and relapsing.

The man pleaded guilty to the possession of ecstasy with the intent to sell and to the simple possession of cannabis but pleaded not guilty to the other charges.

He was remanded in custody.

Magistrate Joseph Apap Bologna presided over the arraignment.

Police Inspector Pierre Grech prosecuted.
