Man shot in the leg

A 53-year-old man is being treated for injuries in hospital after he was shot in the leg by someone in a passing vehicle in Birzebbuga on Thursday night, the police said.

The man was out walking in Hal-Far Road, Birzebbuga, at 9.30 p.m. when a car drove past him and a shot was fired in his direction, the police added.

The man was operated on yesterday to dislodge the bullet.

The victim has no recollection of the vehicle but believes it was a dark-coloured Toyota or Fiat.

The police have not established a motive for the shooting especially since the victim has no history that could have led to it. Police Inspector Joseph Johann Fenech is investigating.
