Man threatened to behead his partner, court told
Both the accused and the victim have a drug problem
A 50-year-old man was remanded in custody on Monday after pleading not guilty to threatening to behead his partner.
The man, a Libyan-born plasterer living in Cospicua, was accused of causing the woman to fear that violence would be used against her, insulting and threatening her. He was further accused of breaching a protection order, breaching two sets of bail conditions and recidivism.
The court heard that the woman reported the man to the police on Friday following an incident on Christmas Eve. She explained that they both have a drug issue and he threatened to behead her and kill himself.
He allegedly took out a multitool which she managed to get hold of and throw away.
Police inspector Omar Zammit said that there was a protection order in place in favour of the woman. It was issued in separate proceedings, but the pair were still seeing each other.
Following a question from defence lawyer Nicholas Mifsud, the inspector confirmed that both the accused and the alleged victim sought out each other. Bail was not requested at this stage and the accused was remanded in custody.
Magistrate Caroline Farrugia Frendo presided. Police inspector Omar Zammit prosecuted while lawyer Nicholas Mifsud appeared for the accused.
