A man representing a project supervision company is going around construction sites threatening the owner and people on site he would report them to the Occupational Health and Safety Authority (Ohsa) if they did not appoint a project supervisor.

Although this was not in breach of the law, it was a clear case of lack of ethics and professional abuse, the authority said in a statement this afternoon.

It said this person was trying to use Ohsa to give companies that were not his clients or that were clients of his competitors a bad name while increasing business for himself.

This person also used the social media to criticise and uploaded photos which, at times, were not even taken in Malta.

OHSA said that this person regularly sent it lists of construction sites in different localities saying he had seen occupational health and safety shortcomings at these sites.

The authority said it took action on the cases of abuse brought to its attention even though it was conscious of the game this person was playing.

It noted that its officers carried out 1,000 inspections in the first six months of the year.
