Man threatens to turn ex into mincemeat and feed her to animals, court hears
Julian Vella also threatened to kill the police if she files charges
A 45-year-old man who allegedly threatened to chop up his former partner, turn her into mincemeat and feed her to animals was given a suspended sentence on Friday
Julian Vella, a driver from Bengħajsa, pleaded guilty to threatening and insulting his former partner, as well as to potentially becoming violent towards her and their two children.
The woman told police that between June 3 and June 4, Vella, the father of her children, began insulting and threatening her through a number of voice notes, which she showed to police.
The threats were made after the parents were informed by their children’s school that one of their children was being sent home because of chickenpox.
One of the threats was directed at the woman and her new partner. Vella said he would chop her up into pieces, turn her into mincemeat and feed her to the animals, the court heard.
He also said, using vulgar language, that he did not "give a damn" about the police, and that, if she filed charges, he would also “kill the police”, noting that when it came to his children, he did not care about anyone or anything.
The victim filed a police report, and the accused was called in for questioning.
Before he arrived, however, the alleged victim told police that Vella had called her and said that if they put him in prison, he would kill her and her children.
A protection order was requested and put in place in favour of the former partner.
Vella was sentenced to 18 months’ imprisonment, suspended for four years. He was also fined €1,000.
The defence was Silvan Pulis. The prosecution was led by Inspector Audrey Micallef. The case was heard by Magistrate Nadia Helen Vella.
