A 63-year-old Zebbug man is expected to be charged in court in the coming days after being nabbed slaughtering chickens illegally.

The administrative law enforcement section of the police, led by Inspector Alex Miruzzi, raided the man's farm in Zebbug last Saturday and allegedly found that chickens were being slaughtered without certification from the official veterinary services.

Police sources said such action violated food safety regulations and hygiene procedures which licensed processors should respect when slaughtering chickens. This was meant as a precaution to protect consumers from diseases.

The man is expected to be also charged with having sold chickens from the farm without handing out a VAT receipt.
