A California man's lucky hunch paid off when he won a 1,000-dollar lottery prize, bought more tickets - then scooped $10 million.

Rodney Meadows, of Modesto, was running errands when he decided to pick up some 30-dollar California Lottery 30th anniversary scratchcards at a local store.
He won 1,000 dollars on the first ticket he bought, then, KCRA-TV reported, decided to buy three more a minute later. That was when he scratched the ticket that made him a millionaire.

Mr Meadows said he had to ask the assistant to check his ticket at the machine because he could not believe he had won 10 million.

He said he does not yet know how he will spend his winnings.
