Total manufacturing sales in the first nine months this year stood at Lm764.5 million, which is slightly down when compared to Lm765.8 million in the same period last year, the National Statistics Office said.
Investment in the manufacturing industry during the first nine months of this year added up to Lm40 million, an increase of Lm3.7 million or 10.2 per cent over the Lm36.3 million registered in the same period last year, the NSO added.
During the third quarter this year, sales in the sector dropped by Lm7.8 million or 2.9 per cent to Lm258.6 million from Lm266.4 million in the same quarter last year.
In the quarter, employment in the sampled enterprises declined by a net of 465 employees to 20,109, when compared to the same period the year before.
In the third quarter this year an amount of Lm30.1 million was paid out in wages and salaries by the sampled enterprises.
During the July-September quarter this year, overall investment in manufacturing industry decreased by Lm2.5 million to Lm9.6 million compared to Lm12.1 million for the same period of the previous year.
