Marine education website enhanced

The educational content of IOI-Kids website www.ioikids.net, which provides a wide range of resources for students and teachers on marine environment, was recently enhanced with material which innovatively addresses aspects of marine pollution problem, and proposes ways in which schoolchildren can help reduce the problem.

The material was submitted by teachers Godfrey and Louise Grima from St Augustine College, Pietà, who won the IOI-Kids Marine

Talent Competition for teachers, run by the International Ocean Institute-Malta Operational Centre (IOI-MOC) and hosted by the University of Malta.

The competition, which was open to all local schools, invited educators to submit marine-related material to enhance the educational content of the website. The material had to address a specific aspect of marine environment, ranging from marine discoveries, marine personalities, marine habitats and species, the human impact on the seas, including climate change, and marine places of interest.

Furthermore, it had to be presented in an appealing visual format congenial to be hosted online.

This was the latest in a string of competitions held recently by the IOI-MOC in connection with the IOI-Kids project. The centre is planning to further enhance the website through novel initiatives.
