Much more needed to be done to make tourism more accessible, Tourism Parliamentary Secretary Mario de Marco said in a seminar today.

Dr de Marco urged stake holders not to improve their product just as a favour to others but because there was a potential market out there.

He said this did not involve just those with special needs but also women with pushchairs and the elderly.

The Parliamentary Secretary suggested targeting old townhouses and palaces and converting them into fully accessible boutique hotels.

Dr de Marco said the island had the potential to be an ideal destination for the elderly who tended to go on holiday in the low season.
