On Saturday, Marsa hit back hard against Krishna CC to open an unassailable 4-1 lead in the Yellow Pages Challenge.
Mike Caruana opened the bowling for Krishna and had success in his second over when he had Tim Wheeler caught at mid-on by Ronnie Sacco. In the very next over, Sacco struck again and Robert Krishna was caught behind for 14 runs.
Mark Sacco can thank his lucky stars, or the umpire, for not hearing the thin edge of his bat being caught by the wicket-keeper off the very first ball he faced. He went on to make 27 runs before being stumped by Grima.
Javed Shah was again dropped early in his innings and went on to make 24 runs. Chris Naudi, who has been batting well throughout the competition, again saved the Krishna innings by making 84 runs. His innings finally came to an end when he was bowled by Jim Towers.
Naudi was dropped three times during his innings. Had it been different, the score of 175 runs totalled would have been much less.
In reply, Marsa only lost one wicket, that of Mark Sacco. He was bowled by Krishna's Mark Sacco for 28 runs. Alan Kyle made a brilliant century which sunk any hope Krishna had of winning the game and squaring the series. He, too, was dropped when he had 85 runs.
Next weekend sees Marsa taking on Punters Cricket Club from England. The final game of the Yellow Pages Challenge will be played the following Saturday.
