Marsa CC are currently on a high. Last week, they beat Leyland Motors by five runs and then Krishna CC in the Skanska Summer Trophy to go nine points clear at the top of the standings.

In the third match of the series against Leyland Motors last Tuesday, Marsa won the toss and batted first.

Mike Caruana led the batting by making 142 runs. He was well aided by Sarfraz Ali who made 73 as Marsa posted a good score of 262. For Leyland Motors, L. Shakleton took four wickets.

In reply J. Rowding made 51 runs, P. Cummings 39, M. Waneing 17, M. Cotton 24 and V. Jones 31 in a total of 257. Frank Spiteri was Marsa's most successful bowler in taking three wickets.

Marsa won the game but lost the series 2-1.

On Saturday, Marsa and Krishna battled out the game for top position in the Summer Trophy. Marsa again batted first and again were in the runs, totalling 186 off the 20 overs allocated.

Nowell Khosla made 21, Mike Caruana 25, Ronnie Sacco 27, Desmond Don Paul 20 and John Grima top-scoring with 36.

For Krishna, Pierre Naudi took two wickets.

Krishna's reply was 148 runs with Alan Kyle making 31, Robert Krishna 33 not out and Javed Shah 41. Ronnie Sacco took four wickets for Marsa who earned ten points for their win. Krishna got only two.

In the other Summer Trophy match, between Melita CC and Overseas CC, the latter won the toss and batted first.

The Overseas batting, missing several key players, was not at its best. The only batsman to make any impact was Mike Smith. He was 26 not out. Overseas just managed to earn a point by making 126 runs.

Melita made the runs in the 12th over with Rory O'Brien top scoring with 35 runs. Melita earned nine points for the win.

Next Saturday, Marsa CC play Melita CC at 11 a.m. and Overseas take on Krishna at 2.30 p.m.
